Many of you will be familiar with my fondness for Ken Robinson’s TED talks. I’m very grateful for the pioneer in him that dares to speak from the point of view of children who are crying out for radical change in how they engage with education. Whether that happens through compulsory mass schooling or more autonomously through other means, such as home-based education, Sir Ken’s ideas are there to provoke deep thought and debate.
In this video (the first in a series of 3, so do watch the others too…), he is interviewed by some American youngsters about his vision for the future. What emerges are some rather interesting challenges to assumptions about how learning happens, what constitutes supportive learning environments and the innate intelligence of children when it comes to knowing themselves and how best to self-manage their education.

Ah, if only! Education is wonderful, the school system is not. I love his inclusive policies.
