Activism isn’t something that appeals to everyone, I’m told, and I have a strong suspicion that this could be because that term – activist – carries with it some sterotypical ideas that align more with certain personality types than others. What I like about Annie Leonard’s latest video offering is that she encourages us to stop and check first what gifts and strengths we have to offer and then to work with those in order to take action to effect change in our own way. Perhaps that’s more appealing?
She also explains why change is needed and why it needs to come from our concern for the welfare of humanity and the rest of the planet, as planetary citizens, rather than from our entrenched habits as consumers. Very much reminiscent of Albert Einstein’s assertion that:

This site seeks to explore the heart and soul of downshifting to a more sustainable, ethical and holistic way of living and working, in keeping with the needs of the planet, humanity as a whole and ourselves as individuals.

Dear Sally, how cheering your website is and this month’s Story of Change particularly. I know we have a duty to not despair but sometimes its hard to keep one’s hope and energy flowing…films like this one are magic. Thanks!
Sue
Thanks, Sue, for your comments on the website and this particular post. I can relate to it being tough sometimes to keep the hope and energy flowing. We seem to need an antidote, somehow, to all the negative and despairing information that abounds. I’m vey happy to hear that this little video has inspired a bit of that for you.
Hi Sally,
I am a ‘Communicator’, closely followed by ‘Nurturer’….
I have lost my internal compass the last two months trying to do do what I should in order to make an income asap..I was simply reinventing a physiotherapist role which was the career that was not for me.
I realised quite recently that my yearning is still there to be a Changemaker and to make the world a better place in some way.
I have had difficulty defining that role until I read ‘Business Model You’ which laid bare my true passions and abilities.
Happily, I am back on course now and feel passion again with an idea of how I can be a Changemaker or help Changemakers :))
Lisa – so important to plug in to the true passions and abilities and so easy to block them out in our quest to earn a living. Good to hear that you’re back on course again now. With much respect for your courage in stopping to observe, feel and take action.
